About Rooted & Wild
Rooted in Christ. Wild enough to follow where He leads.
Rooted & Wild grew from a lifelong love of Missouri’s hardwoods and a conviction that creation can help form us into more attentive, grounded people.
I’m Kayla, the creator and liver (not to be confused with beef liver, or deer liver, but just…well…life liver) of Rooted & Wild. I’ve always had a love for being outside. Whether it was playing sports, working on the farm with my dad, fishing with my great uncle, or sitting against an oak in the November cold waiting for a whitetail to walk by, the outside has been formative throughout my life.

And the outdoors has helped me connect more deeply with the One who made the outside – Jesus.
“Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation, for through him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth. He made the things we can see – such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world. Everything was created through him and for him.”
Colossians 1:15-16
Why Rooted? Good roots grow deep and wide. They provide life, sturdiness, protection, and anchor the plant where they belong. This is what I want to do with Jesus – get so rooted in who He is and who He has made me to be that I am given life, my soul is sturdy, I’m protected by the One who loves me, and I’m anchored so firmly that no storm can move me from where I’m planted in Him.
Why Wild? I want to stay open and say yes to every adventure the Lord has for me. I want to be so rooted in Christ that even the wildest invitation seems possible and fun. I don’t want to be held by fear – I want to stay wild in the abundance God offers to those who say yes.
So, Rooted & Wild exists to get rooted and stay wild – in the outdoors, through community, with Jesus, and with one another.
